KARACHI: Pakistan with a population of over 160 million retains huge potential of economic growth like other fastest growing Asian countries and Italy can invest in areas of infrastructure, leather, marble and machinery in the country, said Sarah Rezoagli, Italian Embassy s Deputy Head of Mission. She was talking to media persons on Wednesday at the launching ceremony of Ponte d affari , a monthly magazine of the Italian Development Council. She said at present there are only 300 Italians in Pakistan and this figure could be raised to thousands. The Italian embassy in Pakistan would facilitate the IDC in establishing further contacts between business communities of the two countries. Tariq Ikram, President of Italian Development Council (IDC), said the IDC was working to bridge the gap between investors of Pakistan and Italy and market opportunities present in both the countries. He said the Board of Investment (BoI) has been fully supporting efforts of IDC in improving trade and investment between the two sides. Similarly, the Punjab Board of Investment and marble associations of Pakistan have also offered IDC to facilitate Italian investors by organising seminars and other support events. The most heated debate these days among Italian investors and officials is their security in Pakistan. What we are doing is to address this problem through constant contacts and highlighting potential sectors where Italians can invest, he added. Slowly and gradually, both countries need to increase bilateral trade and investment in potential sectors, said Ikram.
