ISLAMABAD - The federal cabinet is most likely to formally approve Ramazan Package today (Wednesday), which was recently approved in the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet.

 Federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani will approve the RamAzan Package, as the government has already allocated Rs two billion for this package in the annual budget 2011-2012, sources in cabinet division told TheNation. Apart from approving RamAzan package, the cabinet might also discuss law and order situation in the country especially Karachi.

It is relevant to mention here that the ECC of the cabinet has recently finalised the prices of essential food commodities at Utility Stores Corporation (USC) outlets during the holy month of Ramazan, as prices of basic needs are reduced in the range of Rs6 to Rs45 per kg.

According to the package, the government has decided to give subsidy worth of Rs six on per kg price of flour (atta), as it would be available at Rs22. 50 per kg at USC as compare to Rs28. 50 per kg of the open market.

The cabinet would also emphasize to ensure availability of the items throughout the Ramazan to avoid any complain of shortage or deficiency of any item. Similarly per kg price of Dall Mash is fixed at Rs 128 against Rs140- to Rs145 in open market, per kg Baisen (Chakki) price is set at Rs 63 as compared to the Rs80 of open market, Dates (Khajoor) prices is Rs 110 per kg at USC against Rs 130-140, per kg price of rice basmati would be Rs74 according to the Ramazan package as compare to the Rs90-95 in open market.
