Dollar edges up against rupee

The dollar edged up against the rupee in the interbank market, dealers said on Wednesday. It started the day’s trading at Rs 97.67 for buying, gained two paisas and closed at Rs 97.69 for buying and Rs 97.74 for selling.

However, the euro slipped against the local currency as it opened the day’s trading at Rs 131.25 for buying, depreciated by 11 paisas and closed at Rs 131.14 for buying and Rs 131.34 for selling. The British pound registered strength versus the local currency as it initiated the day’s trading at Rs 153.39 for buying, increased by 46 paisas and closed at Rs 153.85 for buying and Rs 154.05 for selling.

 

Open market: The dollar closed higher against the rupee, dealers said. It opened the day’s trading at Rs 98.40 for buying, rose 20 paisas and closed at Rs 98.60 for buying and Rs 99.15 for selling. The European currency lost versus the rupee as it initiated the day’s trading at Rs 131.47 for buying, fell 47 paisas and closed at Rs 131 for buying and Rs 132.20 for selling. However, the pound sterling ended on a steady note against the local currency as it started the day’s trading at Rs 156.50 for buying, did not record any daily variation and closed at the same rate for buying and Rs 158 for selling.
