100,000 barrels refinery to be set up at PQ

ISLAMABAD : The Trans Asia Refinery (TRL) has announced to build a refinery at Port Qasim to produce over 100,000 barrels of oil per day and 4 million tonnes of petroleum products every year.

 

Reasserting its commitment, TRL in statement issued on Tuesday said that the investors have decided to push the project forward in the interests of all parties and the people of Pakistan”, a press release of TRL said. TRL is a direct investment project of Al-Ghurair Investment, a UAE-based conglomerate and one of the most diverse industrial groups in the Middle East. As the majority shareholder, Al Ghurair will play an important role in the future supply of fuel to the nation of Pakistan.

 

When completed, the TRL refinery will annually produce 80,000 tonnes of LPG, 455,000 tonnes of Naphtha, 410,000 tonnes of motor gasoline, 422,000 tonnes of jet fuel, 1,000,000 tonnes of gas oil – from which 630,000 tonnes will be treated diesel – 1,050,000 tonnes of fuel oil and 200,000 tonnes of bitumen. TRL also announced to appoint ‘Descon’ to undertake a complete “health check” inspection of the TRL refining equipment, and restructuring of TRL management to ensure the project proceeds with all possible haste.

 

New Chief Executive Officer of TRL, Sultan Al-Ghurair said that since the refinery had been delayed for some time, Descon will perform a health check of critical equipment before the EPC contractor is finalised.

 

The setting up of the new refinery will not only play a role in the economic of Pakistan, but also create job opportunities in Pakistan, he said.
