LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Energy Sher Ali has said the people will find relief with the generation of 3,000MW more electricity in a short period of time.

He said this while presiding over a meeting on electricity production here on Sunday. The minister said that on the directions of the prime minister and Punjab chief minister, strenuous efforts were being made to increase the production of electricity.

He said maximum cooperation was being extended at all levels to the foreign electricity production companies so that they could achieve their targets well on time. He told the meeting that Chinese electricity production companies expressed their willingness to work in Pakistan. He said 2,400MWs electricity would be generated with coal and four plants of 600MW each would be set up while 500MW energy would be produced through solar power. He said all streetlights would be shifted to solar energy at the district level.

He said efforts were being made to generate 120MW electricity from canal water at Taunsa, Dera Ghazi Khan district. The minister said there was a need to promote public awareness regarding energy conservation besides controlling power theft. He said that transfer of UPS on solar energy could help save electricity because UPS consumed three units of electricity on charging and produced only one unit of electricity. He said 1,000MW electricity could be saved in this manner. The minister stressed upon the officers to utilise all their abilities for early completion of power generation projects.
