Agricultural credit disbursement rises by 13pc

KARACHI: Agricultural credit disbursement has increased by 13.21 percent on a year-on-year basis to touch Rs169.42 billion in the first seven months of the current fiscal year against Rs149.65 billion in the corresponding period last year, the central bank reported on Thursday.
In absolute terms, credit disbursement to the agriculture sector increased by over Rs19.77 billion between July 2012 and January 2013.

Overall agricultural lending by five major commercial banks: Allied Bank Limited, Habib Bank Limited, MCB Bank Limited, National Bank of Pakistan and United Bank Limited, stood at Rs89.65 billion for the July-January 2013 period as compared to Rs82.46 billion disbursed over the same period in the previous fiscal year and increase of Rs7.19 billion, or 8.72 percent.

The statistics on agricultural disbursement issued by the State Bank revealed that the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), the largest specialised bank, disbursed Rs26.22 billion in July-January as compared to Rs26.36 billion disbursed in the same period last year. Punjab Provincial Cooperative Bank Limited (PPCBL) disbursed Rs4.65 billion during the period under review, down by 6.46 percent as compared to Rs4.98 billion disbursed in the same period last year.

Fourteen domestic private banks also loaned a combined amount of Rs38.81 billion in July-January 2013, up by 33.85 percent as compared to Rs28.99 billion in the same period last year.

Khushhali Bank Ltd, NRSP Microfinance Bank Ltd, The First Microfinance Bank Ltd, Pak-Oman Microfinance Bank Ltd, and Tameer Microfinance Bank Ltd, disbursed agricultural loans amounting to Rs10.06 billion during the period under review .
