ASF okays Rs42.66m for 114 agribusiness projects

LAHORE - The Agribusiness Support Fund (ASF) has approved 114 grants for Projects worth approx Rs 42.66 millions for different private sector agribusiness enterprises. Grants were approved for enterprises ranging from Farmer Enterprise Groups to SMEs, from all over Pakistan for initiating different BDS Projects (Business Development Services). The main aim of the support was reduction poverty in rural areas throughout the Country and increasing revenues for agribusinesses. The grants will support 84 Farmers Enterprise Groups (around 850 Farmers in the groups) in growing cut flowers, Off-season vegetables through Tunnel Farming, Rose water extraction, promotion of fruit orchards with Symbiotic Crops in Balouchistan. Other initiatives include establishment of Fruit Orchards & Nurseries, development of market linkages and establishment of Common Facility Centres in SWAT, NWFP. Grants provided to SMEs included support for setting up of Cold Storage Units, Establishment of Model Floriculture Farms, Acquisition of ISO & BRC certifications, Training Programs on a variety of courses ranging from dairy farm management, mushrooms cultivation to tissue culture lab technology & nursery management, development of Lead Auditor Course on Halal Food. Other customized support provided to SMEs was for projects like Efficient Extraction of Bio-Diesel from Jatropha Oil and development of Agricultural Directory of Pakistan in Urdu language. Support for private sector extension services for IPM of Guava fruit flies, Packaging & Marketing of Quality Rose Extracts and establishment of Dairy Farm.
