CDA to set up bus terminal in Sector I-11

Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) plans to establish a state-of-the-art bus terminal in Sector I-11, which will also resolve traffic problems in the city and address encroachment issues arising out of bus-stands operating at different points.

A comprehensive plan for the establishment of the bus terminal in Sector I-11 will be submitted for the approval of CDA Board at the earliest. CDA Chairman Syed Tahir Shahbaz directed this while presiding over a meeting on traffic problems and encroachments around Faizabad and other parts of the city on Thursday. CDA Member Planning & Design Syed Mustafain Kazmi, Member Estate Shaista Sohail, Member Engineering Sanaullah Aman, District Coordination Officer (Rawalpindi) Saqib Zafar, SSP Traffic (Islamabad) Dr. Moeen Masood and representatives of the ICT Administration attended the meeting.

The participants of the meeting was apprised that due to establishment of illegal bus-stands at Faizaabad by different companies, serious traffic problems are being faced, which need immediate attention.

Tahir Shahbaz, after listening to the stakeholders, said that there was a need to evolve a comprehensive strategy to cope with the traffic mess as well as encroachments at Faizabad.

He said that a coordinated traffic plan should be formulated and submitted for approval of the CDA Board to resolve these longstanding issues and facilitate commuters and stakeholders. He said that the CDA land has been encroached in the area, which needs to be retrieved and utilised for useful purposes. He said that all stakeholders should be taken on board for evolving the plan for establishment of a bus terminal in Sector I-11.

The participants of the meeting were also apprised of traffic and encroachment problems near Khanna Bridge. It was also informed that the CDA has allocated plots for establishing bus and wagon stands in different sectors of the city out of which the bus-stand in Sector G-9 is functional whereas others are in the process of establishment.

The CDA chairman directed the concerned officials to auction these stands to facilitate transporters and the residents of Islamabad. He also directed for immediate work for setting up U-turns and repair of traffic signals on different roads in collaboration with traffic police.
