LAHORE THE Punjab caretaker chief minister should stop auction of plots for education institutes and direct the LDA to provide the same at subsidised rates for the sake of promotion of education in the country.

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry former Senior Vice President Abdul Basit Sunday said it was strange the LDA had displayed advertisements on all leading roads of the City for open auction of the plots for education institutes to attract maximum buyers and get maximum price for the plots. He said that there was no doubt in it that those who would buy the land on high rates would definitely charge high fee from their students, making the education expensive for people of this country.

He said the government should not only provide the land at subsidised rates but should also direct the buyers to keep the fee structure on the low side.

Abdul Basit said that if the caretaker chief minister stopped this open auction of plots, it would be a great step for the promotion of education in the country. The former LCCI senior vice president said there were other avenues to generate money if the LDA was in need of funds.

He said the developed countries focused promotion of free education but in Pakistan education had become a business and the LDA was becoming a tool in making the education more and more expensive and keeping the children of this society uneducated.
