FBR Chief Commissioner violates rules

LAHORE - Regional Tax Office I Chief Commissioner, Sajjad Haider Afzal Cheema, violating the services rules and regulations, appointed a senior auditor as a unit in-charge of Inland Revenue Service (IRS), however, on protest of the FBR union, the appointment order was withdrawn. Federal Revenue Alliance Union central president Mian Abdul Qayyum said that a senior auditor was given the post of a unit in-charge, who controls all sections of the FBR regional office, including Sales Tax, Income Tax and Federal Excise Duty. He was also given the powers of assistant commissioners, which is totally illegal and it was never happen in the history of tax department.

The FBR union gave a protest call, warning the chief commissioner to withdraw illegal decision otherwise whole staff would go on strike for unlimited period.

However, the authorities withdrew the decision. FBR Union president said that a senior auditor cannot be given power of assistant commissioner, as he can only be promoted to the post of assistant manager, deputy manager or manager.

He asked the authorities that if there is an example of senior auditorís promotion as a unit in-charge, it is totally against rules and regulations and FBR should take action against this illegal appointment.
