LAHORE: Director General Trade Organizations (DGTO) Javaid Qureshi has said field offices at all the provincial headquarters will be established as soon as a proposal to this effect has been accepted by the government. He was addressing the Chambers and Associations at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

Qureshi assured that although his office had been renamed the regulator of trade organizations its purpose remained facilitating trade and industry organisations in the larger interests of the economy.

‘The exercise has already been started to eliminate the membership of all the trade associations that fail to fulfill the criterion for registration with the DGTO,” he said. There is no need for NoC from the FPCCI for getting registered with the Director General Trade Organizations, he added.

Participating trade bodies included Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sheikhupura Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sargodha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Faisalabad Chamber of Small Traders and Cottage Industry and Rice Exporters Associations of Pakistan among others.

Speaking on the occasion, LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar appreciated the Director General Trade Organizations for having an interactive session with trade organisations. Although the Director General Trade Organizations office has successfully eliminated numerous puppet associations, a lot of work still needs to be done, he said.

Associations that are operating without license need to be weeded out of the system. The new law will ensure that only genuine trade bodies work for the development of trade, business and economic progress in the country.
