RAWALPINDI: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has devised a plan to prevent flooding in Nullah Leh and other nullahs of the garrison city.

Agency workers have already begun dredging of Nullah Leh, which is expected to be completed by mid-June at an estimated cost of Rs6 million, according to WASA Managing Director Muhammad Akram.

Citizens living in the city’s low-lying areas had been advised not to dispose of garbage and solid waste in nullahs as this created blockages in the form of floods, he said.

The Gawalmandi area, City Sadar Road, Dhoke Charg Deen, Pirwadhai, New Katrian and Dhoke Naju would be targeted during the cleanliness drive, he added.

Akram said that while much work was required to eliminate the dangers of flooding from the city completely, WASA with its limited resources would try its best to safeguard the citizens.
