Flour prices witness hike

Saturday, June 08, 2013 - Rawalpindi The provincial government has temporarily ended the quota for the supply of wheat to the flour mills and the mills have started buying wheat from private suppliers, resulting in increase in price of flour from Rs60 to Rs100 per 20 kg in Rawalpindi city and Cantt areas.



The situation has created flour crisis in the city, while the food department Punjab failed to control hike by millers. The crisis may worsen in the upcoming days, feared the retailers and the general public.



It has been learnt that the provincial government has temporarily stopped the supply of wheat to the flour mills as per normal practice.



On the directives of the provincial government, the city district government Rawalpindi fixed retail price of flour at Rs670 per 20 kg but now the shopkeepers are selling it at Rs730 to Rs770 per 20 kg.
