Karachi  Four shopkeepers were jailed and 53 profiteers fined Rs77, 900 for violating government commodity rates.

They were fined for charging higher rates, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said in a meeting held at his office on Wednesday.

The commissioner informed the meeting that the deputy and assistant commissioners of all five districts were taking measures against profiteering and hoarding in the city. They had imposed fines on 30 flour sellers, five meat sellers and 18 other shopkeepers for profiteering, he said.

“Steps are being taken against the profiteers and hoarders in order to provide relief to the people”. He urged the consumers to ask the shopkeepers to put up the government’s price list.

“All deputy commissioners are directed to ensure that the official rate list is clearly displayed at every shop.”

The consumers should register their complaints at the control rooms about products being sold at higher rates.
