KARACHI:, the world’s largest platform offering IT-related projects to individuals and companies from across the globe, launched its website ‘’ in Pakistan on Tuesday, an official of the company said at a press conference. “Pakistani project designers have earned $13 million (or Rs1.3 billion) through the platform since 2001,” Muhammad Umer Farooq, director of site reliability, said. “It offers projects in almost every field of life.”

He said that this was a platform that established a link between project hirers and project designers at an agreed price. Project hirers put their offering price for desired projects, while designers give their bid prices. “Hirers have so far offered 4.2 million projects through the website since 2001, while they have spent $150 million on project designing,” he said.

Alexa – a world renowned websites’ rating agency – ranked the website among top 300 websites globally. “The same rating company has ranked the website at 51 number in Pakistan,” he said

With Pakistan’s broadband users clocking in at a whopping five million, the launch will open doors to Pakistani’s self-employed professionals. “Pakistan ranks third highest in terms of membership on with more than 240,000 users,” he said.

Pakistan Software Houses Association President Jehan Ara said that the platform will empower jobless people to become self-employed workers, while students can also benefit from the platform. “It will give students experience before they apply for a job,” she said.

She said that the quality of Pakistani professionals was good as they complete projects much before the given timeline.

Syed Saqlain, a top-10 user of the website, shared his success story on the occasion. He said that he established his own software house with four to five employees through the website. “In my childhood, I worked at a tea shop managed by my father. Today, I have bank accounts in almost all worldwide currencies to earn against offered projects,” he said.
