Heavy rain, hail lash Lahore

It poured down as soon with the sun reached its setting time on Sunday while some areas even received a sumptuous doze of hailing action. The day transformed from being a usual summer sunny-warm affair measuring 34 degrees on the Celsius scale, into a romantic and eventful episode as the weekend evening approached. Interestingly, the Met Office could not record of the activity and its website read nil rain for Lahore. The DFO Lahore MET Office explained the situation saying that it did not rain at the chief recording facility and because there was no way other than the internet to communicate with other stations such as the airport, the information could not be communicated due to power outage.

LDA extends date

LAHORE Development Authority has extended last date for inviting proposals from chartered accountant firms for review of acquisition and allotment of land in Gulshan-e-Ravi Scheme, Lahore, up to May 7, 2012. This decision has been taken due to the increasing number of inquiries regarding scope and volume of work.

Building inspectors

LAHORE

THE provincial Local Government Department recruited 60 building inspectors through Public Service Commission. This has been done for first time in the history of the department to ensure merit. The newly recruited building inspectors have completed their training at Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company. Secretary Local Government Khizar Hayat Gondal awarded certificates to the building inspectors in a function held at the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company.

Shopping festival ends

OVER 200,000 people belonging to all walks of life visited 200 stalls during a three-day Second Expo Lahore at Expo Centre. The Lahore Shopping Festival was a joint initiative of the Punjab government and the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The weeklong Lahore Shopping Festival, concluded on Sunday, had in its fold a number of events that generated economic activity worth millions of rupees. The visitors showed keen interest in all products put on display at the Second Expo Lahore but Indonesian, Jordanian, Indian and Czech Republic products were of great attraction.
