Hosiery body concerned over power price hike

KARACHI : Central chairman Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMA) M Jawed Bilwani has expressed his concern over the increase in electricity charges from 1st of this month.

He maintained that value-added textile sector, which is already over-burdened, will become cost incompetitive in the region and in international market. Bilwani, in a statement here on Friday, said the country’s economy especially value-added textile export sector is going through crises.

He was of the view that the cost of losses incurred due to theft of electricity was being shifted to genuine consumers who pay their electricity bills within time. Instead, he stressed, the power distribution companies must concentrate on stopping theft of electricity, line losses and increase their efficiency.
