Industrial bodies flay KESC for loadshedding

Karachi:Long-hours loadshedding in different industrial areas of the metropolis without any prior notice has badly hampered the trading activity just because of the negligence of Karachi Electric Supply Company.

These was stated in a joint statement of town & industrial associations of Karachi by Mohammad Zubair Chhaya, Dr Arshad A Vohra, M Farooq Khatura, M Haroon Shamsi, Usman Ahmed, Alireza M Aladin and Aslam Rayaz.

They advised the government to grant permission of power supply to more than one monopolistic company as well as at least more than one power supply company in each industrial area of Karachi.

They said KESC is bent on hurting and damaging the economic hub of Pakistan and its exports. Moreover, they strongly felt that KESC is purposely conducting loadshedding for four hours during the day to keep away female workers who only come to work during the day.

Businessmen said that export oriented industries were unable to run their units smoothly as their production comes to a standstill for 4 hours in both the shifts. Labourers sit idle and export commitments to their foreign buyers are seriously affected.

They said cut in supply of gas also seriously affects their production despite the fact that industries pay all their bills on time. It is indeed a pity that industries use gas to run their plants at approx. 60% to 65% efficiency, still SSGC keeps on regular supply of gas without any loadshedding to those consumers who run on 18% to 40% efficiency and do not pay their bills.
