IPO-Pakistan to develop database for enlisting SMEs

LAHORE: Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO-Pakistan) Chairman Hameedullah Jan Afridi (MNA) has said that the development of database for enlisting SMEs of different business sectors and geographical areas, including women entrepreneurs, is one of the priorities of IPO-Pakistan, while addressing a workshop on developing linkages between branding, trademarks and understanding the utility of industrial designs for female entrepreneurs,

 

He said that numerous steps were being adopted to initiate joint ventures with different organisations for promotion of IP rights in the country. He lauded the role of the business community for generating economic activities. He assured them that according to international obligations, Pakistan is committed to provide a congenial atmosphere for protection of registered brands and in view of improving working capabilities of the law enforcing agencies, capacity building programmes were being implemented with the cooperation of World Intellectual Property Organisation and other international organisations.

Chairman IPO appreciated women’s participation in economic growth and said that it has decided to confer IPO Women Enterprise and SMEs Innovation Awards on the eve of World IP day with the objective to encourage brand protection initiatives. He said that public awareness activities and training facilities regarding IP protection were being extended at the grassroots level with the cooperation of provincial governments and the corporate sector.
