Irrigation channel inaugurated in Khazana

PESHAWAR: A new irrigation channel has been formally inaugurated in the Khazana Union Council of the Peshawar district.

Ms Elena Tischenko, chief South and West Asian Division, RBAP UNDP, and the Country Director of UNDP in Pakistan, Marc Andre Franche, inaugurated the scheme.A press release said the irrigation channel has been completed by the women village organisation (Noor). The construction cost was Rs1.7 million.

The channel will irrigate around 800 acres of agriculture lands in the Khazana Payaan Union Council under the RAHA-KP Programme.RAHA being a joint venture of the government of Pakistan implemented by UNDP and funded by The European Union, has intervention in six districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Buner, Haripur, Lower Dir, Nowshera, Peshawar and Swabi.

For this project, the European Union extended a Fund of 39.8 million Euros for a period of four years, aimed at improving the living standard of more than one million Pakistanis, who hosted or still hosting Afghan Refugees.
