   K-IV goes off in mid-Jan: KWSB

KARACHI – K-IV, the mega project under which 650 million additional gallons of water would be brought to the provincial metropolis, is set to go off in the next month, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board announced here.

With the approval of a sum of Rs25 billion by the government, the water board has invited tenders for consultancy from international firms and also released advertisements to international papers in this respect, its managing director, Misbhauddin Fareed, said chairing a meeting on Sunday.

It may be mentioned here that the K-IV project comes right after the completion of the K-III scheme. Starting from Keenjhar Lake, the K-IV would span 124-kilometre till Northern Bypass after passing through Thatta district. Misbhauddin Fareed said that combined efforts of President Asif Zardari, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Minister Local Bodies Agha Siraj Durrani and members of the Sindh Assembly made possible the approval of Rs25 billion funds for the K-IV project that would be completed in three phases.

The managing director said the inauguration of the project by President Zardari was expected in the mid of January next year. He also said that the board had urged international firms to come forward and take part in the tenders so that the project could be completed on time. Fareed also praised former City mayor Senator Mustafa Kamal, members of the Sindh Assembly and former members of City Council for their personal interest and tireless efforts for the project.

He directed the KIV project director, Mashkoorul Hasnain, and all board officers to give their best to the project in order to provide relief to the citizens.Among other senior officials, the meeting was also attended by Chief Engineer Saleem Siddiqui.
