Karachi ports handle 116,869 tons of cargo

KARACHI: The Karachi Port and Port Qasim handled a cargo volume of 116,869 tons during the last 24 hours that included 98,216 tons of imports and 18,653 tons of exports, the two ports reported on Thursday.

Accordingly, the Karachi Port handled imports, including containerised cargo (10,528 tons), coal (36,441 tons) and oil / liquid cargo (12,300 tons). It handled exports, including containerised cargo (12,144 tons), bulk cargo (175 tons) and cement (181 tons). Port Qasim handled imports, including edible oil (9,778 tons), crude oil (8,818 tons), chemicals (7,520 tons) and containerised cargo (12,831 tons). It handled exports, including containerised cargo (6,153 tons).


Berth occupancy was measured at 35 percent at the port on Thursday, the Port Qasim Authority reported. It said that it moored three ships during the last 24 hours, which were carrying containers, crude oil and chemicals. With this, a total of four ships loaded and offloaded containers, chemicals, crude oil and edible oil. The Karachi Port Trust said that it berthed two ships in the last 24 hours, which were carrying bulk cargo and tankers, while another 12 ships, carrying ethanol, containers, chemicals, crude oil, naptha, mogas and vehicles, are expected to arrive at the port in the next 24 hours.
