Karachi ports handle 142,836 tons of cargo

The Karachi Port and Port Qasim handled a cargo volume of 142,836 tons during the last 24 hours that included 99,157 tons of imports and 43,679 tons of exports, the two ports reported on Wednesday.

Accordingly, the Karachi Port handled imports, including containerised cargo (21,777 tons), bulk cargo (408 tons), coal (13,000 tons) and oil / liquid cargo (19,179 tons). It handled exports, including containerised cargo (14,531 tons), bulk cargo (269 tons), loose bulk cement (7,392 tons) and oil / liquid cargo (2,600 tons).

Port Qasim handled imports, including edible oil (10,704 tons), furnace oil (26,592 tons), and containerised cargo (7,497 tons). It handled exports, including cement (9,269 tons) and containerised cargo (9,618 tons).

Berth occupancy was measured at 55 percent at the port on Thursday, the Port Qasim Authority reported.

It said that it moored two ships during the last 24 hours, which were carrying containers and furnace oil. With this, a total of six ships loaded and offloaded containers, cement, furnace oil and edible oil.

Besides, another four ships, carrying iron ore, containers and liquefied petroleum gas are parked at the outer anchorage of the port, it said. The Karachi Port Trust said that it berthed five ships in the last 24 hours, which were carrying containers.
