Karachi : The city administration will soon build public toilets at 200 different spots across Karachi. A survey has been completed and the locations where public toilets are required have been pointed out.

This was said by Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan on Tuesday at the inauguration of newly constructed public toilets under the Jail Chowrangi Flyover.

Under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s “Public Toilets Project” in collaboration with Citizens-Police Liaison Committee, 800 public bathrooms will be constructed near business centres, picnic points, parks and bachat bazaars.

The lavatories near Jail Chowrangi have been built with four separate rooms in one unit. Two rooms have been reserved for men and two for women.

A separate toilet has also been built for women with proper lighting, water and sewerage arrangements. The disabled people will use the toilet without any charges while Rs5 will be collected from the people.

A part of the public bathrooms has been constructed for disabled people and a ramp for wheelchair-bound people has also been built. Three toilets have been built in the eastern style with one under the western style.

The public toilet has been built along the busy location of Jail Chowrangi in collaboration with Hilton Pharma. The KMC has only installed water and sewerage lines while the remaining construction has been carried out by the pharmaceutical firm.

The KMC would be carrying out repair and renovations of public toilets gradually for the facility to be used by citizens, Khan said.
