KWSB launches drive to recover Rs 500m arrears

KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has launched the drive to recover Rs 500 million arrears from industrial concerns of Landhi Korangi industrial areas.

It is seeking help of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI). In a meeting with KATI, the KWSB officials devised a strategy for recovering the areas according to which a joint committee had been constituted consisting of KATI chairman Zubair Chhaya, Chaudhry Niaz, former chairman Zahid Hussain, Masood Naqvi, Deputy Managing Director (Revenue) KWSB Waqar Hashmi, Chief Engineer GIS Shakil Qureshi, Deputy Director Korangi Town Sohail Khalid and Deputy Director Landhi Town Shahid Ali Khan.

In the first phase, the defaulting industrial units would be persuaded to clear dues by writing letters and holding meetings with them. After the reconciliation efforts, the defaulters would be issued notices containing deadline and in case of non-payment, the water connections would be disconnected in third phase under Land Revenue Act.
