Lawmakers urge adequate water supply

Karachi : Member National Assembly Khwaja Sohail Mansoor and Member Provincial Assembly Abdul Haseeb Khan on Monday demanded adequate water supply for Baldia Town, Sher Shah, Pak Colony, Orangi, Keamari Town, Muhammadi Road and their adjoining areas.


During a meeting with Karachi Water & Sewerage Board Managing Director Misbahuddin Farid, the lawmakers said: “Unfair distribution of water cannot be ignored and KWSB officials must ensure swift water supply in the affected areas.”


They said the water utility must formulate a strategy to ensure sufficient water supply across the city. There should be a policy to provide water to the tail-end areas, and residential areas must be given special attention when the KWSB distributes water, they added.


The elected representatives stressed that the water board’s officers and other staff must fulfil their religious, moral and professional duties with honesty.They said some officers of the water utility were not following the orders of the KWSB MD and were found to be negligent in carrying out their duties.


“It is vital that the residents of these localities receive sufficient water, and the issue of water shortage should be resolved at the earliest,” they added.KWSB MD Farid directed the technical services deputy managing director to resolve the matter. He ordered rescheduling the bulk water supply, adding that all localities must get adequate water through the bulk system.


He also ordered addressing all technical issues that were hindering proper water supply to the affected areas.Taking notice of negligence of KWSB officers, Farid transferred XEN Abdul Qayyum, and warned SE Usman Khaskheli and Sub Engineer M Arif that their salaries might be withheld.He said they would be suspended if they were found to be negligent in performing their duties again.
