LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) expressed concerns over the performance of Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (Lesco) board of directors and called for its reconstitution through a transparent mechanism.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar said that it was unfortunate that the Ministry of Water and Power, Lesco officials and political representatives have manipulated their inclusion on the board by getting rid of genuine trade and industry representatives.

He said that retired persons having no stakes have been appointed on the board.

“Stakeholders representing trade and industry, who are suffering at the hands of Lesco, should be the board members,” he added. According to Iftikhar, the authorities concerned, while constituting the board, did not give due consideration to the LCCI. Moreover, the president of LCCI was also an ex-officio member of the board.

He reiterated that Lesco’s board be reconstituted immediately by the Minister of Water and Power.
