LWMC approves Rs8.9b budget

LAHORE :THE 26th meeting of Board of Directors of Lahore Waste Management Company approved all seven points on its agenda under the chairmanship of Ahmad Rafay Alam.

Later, Khawaja Ahmed Hassan resumed the chairmanship of LWMC BoD. He had resigned from the designation in March 2013 before general election.

BoD members Dr Rizwan Naseer, Finance EDO Salman Ghani, additional Finance Secretary Miss Silwat Saeed, LWMC Financial Adviser Ahsan Chughtai, LWMC MD Waseem Ajmal, LWMC company secretary, chief financial officer and general managers attended the meeting.

The annual budget of Rs 8.9 billion for financial year 2013-14 was presented and approved in the meeting. The budget includes Rs 1.5 billion for Lahore Landfill Project, Rs 1 billion for waste management system in rural union councils along with construction of eight additional transfer stations. Almost Rs 3.5 billion were allocated for Turkish companies for their services, Rs 2.25 billion for payment of salaries, Rs 100 million for Ring Road Project, Rs 250 million for Metro Bus Service project, Rs 100 million for the purchase of two trash compactors and Rs 250 million under the head of fuel.

In this regard, Rs 4 billion will be provided by Finance Department of Punjab government and Rs 3.5 billion by City District Government Lahore.

LWMC has also set target to generate revenue of Rs 130 million by fee collection from commercial areas. The board also discussed appointments and nominations of new directors on the vacant seats. The board also reviewed the development on Lakhodair Landfill Site project.

The annual revenue generation plan for next fiscal year was also approved by the board directors. The operation plan for improved sanitation services in rural union councils of Lahore was discussed and the board gave go ahead.

The board also congratulated Khawaja Ahmed Hassan on resuming the chairmanship.

Illegal constructions demolished: During its operation against illegal constructions as well as violation of building bylaws, the staff of the Town Planning Wing of Lahore Development Authority demolished nine illegal structures besides sealing two buildings.

The illegally constructed structures were demolished at Johar Town and Allam Iqbal Town.

Illegally constructed two buildings at Gulshan Block and 35 Kareem Block were sealed.

Meanwhile, LDA Director General Ahad Khan Cheema has given the charge of the post of deputy director to two officers. Bisma Asif, assistant director, accounts, working in the Revenue Directorate has been given the charge of the post of deputy director in the same directorate. Rizwan Shoukat, assistant director, accounts-III, working in the Finance Directorate has also been given the charge of the post of deputy director, accounts-III, in the Finance Directorate.

Mudasar Majeed, assistant director, general cadre, working in the Directorate of Recovery has been transferred and posted in the Directorate of Record Management, LDA.

Faisal Anjum, assistant director, accounts, working in the Revenue Directorate has been transferred and posted as assistant director, accounts-III, in the Finance Directorate.

Rana Tahir Mahmood, assistant director, town planning, has been reinstated and his services have been placed at the disposal of LDA chief town planner for further adjustment.
