Mobile payment transactions value up by 30pc

KARACHI: The value of mobile payment transactions increased by 30.66 percent to Rs7.3 billion during the third quarter of the current fiscal year against Rs5.6 billion in the previous quarter of this fiscal year, the State Bank of Pakistan reported on Wednesday.

The Payment System Review for January-March 2012-13, issued by the central bank, revealed that of all the e-banking transactions, mobile transactions show the highest increase since the previous quarter of the current fiscal year.

The transactions increased by 22.84 percent in terms of volume to reach the number of 1.12 million as compared to 0.91 million in the preceding quarter.

The volume of overall e-banking transactions increased by 3.47 percent, amounting to Rs82.21 million, while their value registered a growth of 4.37 percent to reach Rs7.9 trillion during the third quarter of the current fiscal year, the review showed.

Over 94 percent of bank branches in the country are now offering real-time online branches (RTOB) services as 50 more bank branches were added to the network during the period under review. Overall 9,946 bank branches of 10,535 offer RTOB services across the country, the review said.
