RAWALPINDI:The Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) has scaled down property tax by 200 per cent and approval has been accorded in this regard.

Sources said on Friday that the CCB had jacked up property tax four

times during 2011 which resulted in a dip in collection of taxes as owners of newly-built houses evaded integration into the tax net.

High ups of military land and elected public representatives had issued directives to the CCB to decrease the tax.

As per the revised assessment policy, the amount of property tax would go down from Rs 60,000 to Rs20,000 per annum in respect of residences located in posh areas.

Similarly, new properties would be assessed in perspective of tax levied under the revised assessment policy.

The CCB chief executive officer said that the step had been taken in public interest and it would increase tax collection manifold due to integration of newly-built houses into tax net.
