NR3C task force conducts raids on illegal VoIP setups

ISLAMABAD: The task force of National Response Centre for Cyber Crimes (NR3C) has conducted a number of raids on illegal Voice over Internet Traffic (VoIP) setups since February 11, 2013.

The task force conducted these raids on different locations in the jurisdiction of NR3C Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi.

In these raids a total of 31 massive illegal VoIP setups were unearthed. Twenty-one FIRs and 10 inquiries were registered against 42 perpetrators of this business. The cost of the equipment seized in these cases is approximately Rs 700 million and calculated loss averted to government exchequer is approximately Rs 300 million per month.

According to details, the illegal voice over Internet traffic increased significantly since November 2012 due to increase in Approved Settlement Rate. As a result the profit in illegal VoIP business increased manifolds, which encouraged this illegal business hence causing huge loss to the national exchequer.
