Pakistan likely to import 500 MW electricity from India

ISLAMABAD, (SANA): Water and Power Ministry authorities and Indian delegation are in contact over the project of import of 500mw electricity from India by Pakistan.

According to the sources the technical experts of both the countries were supposed to hold talks on Monday regarding the import of electricity from India. The sources added that two proposals were under consideration for electricity import.

A proposal suggests that 500 megawatts of electricity should be imported from India while the second proposal suggests that electricity can be provided to Lahore city from the nearest point for which installation of 440 KV transmission line is needed.

The sources added if the project is matured, it would take 18 months duration to complete.

The tariff on imported electricity has been suggested Rs 18 per unit while the consumers would have to pay Rs 21 per unit.
