PARB provided Rs 1b for 53 research projects in last 3 years

LAHORE – Punjab Agricultural Research Board has provided Rs1 billion funds for 53 research projects during last three years. The Board provided funds for the projects under Competitive Grant System during last three years. This was told in 28th Board’s meeting of the PARB here on Thursday. Agriculture Minister Ahmad Ali chaired the meeting.  “The Board also examined outcomes of the evaluation report of 13 randomly selected PARB-funded projects and expressed satisfaction on the evaluation of these projects. The evaluation was conducted by a committee exclusively constituted by the Board comprising of third party experts,” said a statement.

It was also told that these projects were now at the verge of commercialization phase. The Board also decided to give high priority to research projects aimed on productivity enhancement of gram, development of quality vaccines against fatal livestock animal diseases and control of quick decline disease of Sheshum (Dilberjia sisso).

To finalize projects on these high priority research areas, a committee comprising of VCs of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore and Forest Department Chief Conservative Officer was also constituted by the Board. The committee will submit its recommendations for approval from the Board in the light of evaluation of Technical Working Group (TWG) constituted on these projects.

Addressing the meeting, the minister said that Punjab Agriculture Research Board is an important entity engaged in research planning, monitoring, coordination and commercialization of projects.

He said that outcomes of one billion rupees investment made so far on 53 research projects will very soon be at door step of farmers and will result in growth of agriculture sector and will also stabilize the national economy through development of new crop varieties, productivity enhancement and increase in surplus exports.
