Petroleum products output up by 15.21pc

ISLAMABAD - Production of petroleum products surged by 15.21 per cent dur ing the first eleven months of the fiscal year 2012-13 against the corresponding period of last year. On year-on-year basis, the production increased 4.24 per cent in May 2013 when compared to the production of May 2012, according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The petroleum products that witnessed increase in production during July-May (2012-13) included jet fuel, output of which increased by 2.90 per cent.


Similarly, the production of kerosene oil increased by 16.20 per cent during the period under review, while the production of motor spirits expanded by 22.70 per cent. According to the PBS data, the production of high speed diesel increased by 18.17 per cent and diesel oil by 18.24 per cent. Production of furnace oil and LPG during the period under review increased by 20.55 per cent and 24.31 per cent respectively. The products that witnessed negative growth in production during the first eleven months of the fiscal year 2012-13 included lubricating oil, jute batching oil and solvent naptha, output of which decreased by 5.78 per cent, 1.76 per cent and 5.89 per cent respectively.


On the other hand, on year-on-year basis, the production of jet fuel oil in May 2013 increased by 4.24 per cent against the production of same months of last year.


The production of motor spirits and high speed diesel increased by 4.84 per cent and 1.20 per cent in May 2013 against the production of May 2012, the PBS data revealed.


The other petroleum products that witnessed increase in production in May 2013 over May 2012 included high speed diesel, furnace oil, lubricating oil, jute batching oil and solvent naptha, output of which increased by 1.2 per cent, 1.16 per cent, 2.52 per cent, 19.17 per cent and 6.35 per cent respectively.


Production of diesel oil increased by 6045 per cent during May 2013 against the production of same months of last year.


It is pertinent to mention here that the country’s overall Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) has registered positive growth of 4.17 per cent during the first eleven months of the fiscal year 2012-13 over the corresponding period of the last financial year. On year-on-year basis, the LSM grew by 2.65 per cent during the month of May 2013 when compared to the same month of last year, according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The Quantum Index Numbers (QIN) of LSM stood at 117.55 points during July-May (2012-13) against 112.85 points during July-May (2011-12).


During the period under review, industries monitored by Oil Companies


Advisor Committee (OCAS) registered increase of 0.81 per cent growth while the indices of Ministry of Industries grew by 1.68 per cent and that of Provincial Bureaus of Statistics by 1.67 per cent.
