Karachi: The Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) said on Thursday that some 81 million gallons of water could not be supplied to the city through its Dhabeji pumping station owing to over four hours power breakdown at the main water supply installation situated outside the city. The KWSB said that water supply from Dhabeji pumping station was disrupted due to a prolonged power breakdown from 12:30pm to 5pm caused by the KESC. However, the water utilityís spokesman said water shortage in the city caused due to power breakdown at Dhabeji pumping station was overcome by arranging water from alternative water supply sources.

Responding to allegations, the KESCís spokesman said there had been no suspension in electric supply to any of the pumping stations of the KWSB.

He said the KWSB was duly informed in advance about any power shutdown situation caused due to carrying out of maintenance work and for such shutdown period the water utility was responsible for arranging electric supply from any available alternative source. He said the water board was itself responsible for rectifying any internal fault at any of its installation including rectification of internal cable fault. He said the KESC had no obligation with regard to ensuring water supply to the residents of the city.
