Railways minister briefed about major corruption cases pending in NAB

An important meeting was convened in the Ministry of Railways on Wednesday regarding "briefing on major corruption cases pending in NAB". Federal Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique was given a detailed briefing about the pending references of Pakistan Railways, who chaired the meeting. Arif Azeem, Secretary Railways; Syed Shahid, Secretary Railways Board; Ms Parveen Agha, Member Finance; and Aftab Akbar, DG Operations were also present.

The Minister was apprised of the present situation as well as the future implications of the legal proceedings regarding mega corruption cases pending, either initiated by the Ministry or the Apex Court through its Sou Moto notice. The matters brought under discussion include 'Leasing of One Lac Square Feet Railway Land' situated at Bank Road, Rawalpindi, 'Procurement of 69 locomotives from Dong Fang Electric Co', Procurement of 75 locomotives enquiry report', 'Railway Golf Club (Royal Palm) Investigation Report' and 'Bulk Illegal Sale of Railway Scrap' matter.

While speaking to NAB officials, the Minister said "investigation should be put on fast track so that the results are prompted as the justice delayed is justice denied." The Minister instructed the Railways Ministry's higher ups to extend full co-operation with the NAB Investigating team in this regard.

He said, "Those who have manipulated to cause loss to Pakistan Railways through fraud, forgery and through their malicious conduct, shall be followed to every nook and corner to bring them to book, adding that all registered cases would be pleaded in the court of law actively to attain their logical ends and every single penny, withdrawn illegally should be brought back.-PR
