Federal minister for Pakistan Railways (PR) Khawaja Saad Rafique on Monday sprung into action and took serious notice of delay in trains' services and directed investigation into the matter. The passengers on Monday heavily suffered due to delay in two trains services, where they were provided free of cost meal, while a committee has been constituted to probe the matter thoroughly.

The federal minister also directed for provision of 'free of cost' meals to the passenger stuck up due to delay in Hazara Express and Awam Express by about 17 hours in reaching its destination. Both the trains were scheduled to reach Lahore by 9am from Karachi, however, now these trains would reach on Tuesday morning.

The passengers faced great difficulties and finally the federal minister had to take serious notice of the incident. Following the directives of the federal minister, Railway authorities provided meals and cold water to the passengers. However Railways officials revealed that the incident occurred due to technical faults in trains' engines, which further disturbed the whole schedule of train services.

Talking to Business Recorder Arif Azeem chairman Pakistan Railways said that the passengers were provided meal on the directives of federal minister, as the trains delay was for 15 to 17 hours. "We will try to ensure in time arrivals and departures of trains in future to avoid such embarrassing situations", Arif maintained. Following the directives of railway minister, Arif said that a committee has been constituted at PR headquarter which would investigate delay in train services.

It is worth mentioning here that Railway is facing acute shortage of locomotives and those available are outdated. Federal Minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafique on Sunday said that Pakistan Railways had 465 engines, out of which 325 were non-operational and had turned into heap of garbage. Telling the dismal story of the Pakistan Railways, he expressed the resolve to bring unscrupulous people in PR to justice.
