Removal of flags from Sharea Faisal ordered

Karachi Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi on Thursday ordered an immediate start to the beautification work on Sharea Faisal, including the removal of banners, flags, posters and billboards placed during elections.

The beautification work should be carried out from Metropole Roundabout to Karsaz in the first phase, and from Karsaz to the airport in the second, he mentioned. He also ordered the repairs of broken footpaths and roads, the plantation of seasonal flowers and the trimming of trees at the earliest.

He said that out-of-order streets lights on Sharea Faisal should be replaced and footpath lanes coloured. He issued these guidelines while directing Director General Technical Services Niaz Ahmed Soomro and the concerned chief engineers during a meeting.

On this occasion, the director general Technical Services gave a briefing and outlined the plan. During elections, banners and flags were placed on Sharea Faisal and they had not been removed by political parties till date, he said.

It had been decided that the work will start by the removal all political flags, banners and signboards, placed without permission, he said. Soomro informed that 19 routes of public transport use this road daily whereas thousand of commuters preferred this road to reach their destinations.

He said from Hotel Metropole to the airport this road was made signal-free to avoid traffic jams and save the time and fuel of commuters. The administrator also directed the removal of encroachments from this road.
