Sabotage plunges Balochistan into darkness

QUETTA  -  Seventeen districts of Balochistan plunged into darkness when unknown persons blew up four power pylons in Bibi Nani, Machh area of Bolan district on Thursday night.

According to officials, unknown persons had planted the explosive material with four pylons of two main transmission lines. The explosive material went off and as a result one of the pylons was destroyed completely and three others were partly damaged.

Qesco Spokesman Muhammad Afzal said that last night unknown persons blew up four power pylons, including two of 220 KV and two of 132 KV in Bibi Nani area. The electricity supply to 17 districts of Balochistan including the provincial capital Quetta was suspended after the blasts, he added.

Qesco is providing electricity to Quetta city from the alternative Habibullah Costal Power House and Shaikhmanda Thermal.

“We have 270 mw of electricity for Balochistan whereas its total need stands at 1,550 mega watt. We are providing electricity to district headquarters while rural areas are being given power supply for one hour,” he said. “A 220kv tower was completely destroyed and three others are partly damaged. The repair work will be start after the security clearance by the Provincial government.” No group has claimed the responsibility of the attack.

A case has been registered against the unknown persons and investigations are underway.
