Shirazi brothers allowed to contest by-polls

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday allowed Shirazi brothers of Thatta to contest the up-coming by elections.

A full bench of SHC headed by Justice Muneeb Akhtar issued notices to returning officer of NA-237, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), provincial election commissioner, Shams-un-Nisa and Abdul Aziz Memon and adjourned the hearing of case

to August 6.

Shirazi brothers of Thatta, Syed Riaz Hussain Shah Shirazi and Syed Fiyaz Hussain Shah Shirazi, were disqualified by the election tribunal on the application of Shams-un-Nisa, who approached election tribunal against acceptance of their nomination papers.

Shirazi brothers submitted that election tribunal disqualified them on basis that they had encroached forestland. The petitioners said that in a report submitted by forest officer Thatta district it was alleged that they have encroached 80-acre forestland. ppi
