Trade events to boost Pakistan-Russia economic relations

ISLAMABAD - The Russian Business Council for Cooperation with Pakistan (RBCCP) is planning to organise different trade related events in Russia and Pakistan to explore trade potential and enhance economic relations between the two countries.

RBCCP is planning to organise trade events, conferences and exhibitions in Russia and Pakistan, Sergey Dolgopolsky said during a meeting with the business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

It is pertinent to mention here that a delegation of RBCCP led by Sergey Dolgopolsky visited ICCI for discussing ways and means to enhance bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia.

The delegation comprised of Director DTH Pakistan, Artem Korenevskiy, Political Counsellor, Vladimir Shreter and Consultant of Trade Representation of Russian Federation in Pakistan, Sergey S.Dragunov.

Dolgopolsky said that RBCCP was formed with an objective to help the Russian and Pakistani business community to develop their business relations and promote the trade investment program which would enhance the businessmen partnership between two countries.

He said that main task of Council is to introduce businessmen of both the countries. He invited ICCI members to become the members of RBCCP which would further strengthen the business relations between two countries.

Speaking on the occasion, President ICCI Zafar Bakhtawari emphasized the need for enhancing private sector interaction and collaboration to promote bilateral trade.

He said that Russian and Pakistani entrepreneurs should visit each others country for exploring options of enhancing bilateral trade.

ICCI President said that Pakistan Steel Mills was a good example of past cooperation between Pakistan and Russia, therefore similar cooperation needs to be extended in many areas, particularly in energy as Russian is energy sufficient country.

He stated that unavailability of direct air-links is the major obstacle that was impeding bilateral trade between Russia and Pakistan, adding that in early 90s PIA operated to Moscow, therefore, restoration of such direct air-connectivity is important to improve mutual trade relations between both countries.

Bakhtawari said that Pakistan is occupying a strategic and geo-political location which could play a vital role in the development of its relationship with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries. He said that Russia should also provide support to Pakistan to get the status of SCO member country as currently Pakistan, India, Iran, and Mongolia have the observer status in this organization.
