Unhygienic food goes unchecked in federal capital

ISLAMABAD Most of the hotels and restaurants in different markets of federal capital are serving sub-standard and unhygienic food to their consumers besides fixing prices at their own. The sub-standard and unhygienic food is causing certain digestion problems and diseases among the people who had to feed themselves at these low priced places.

The practice goes unchecked despite certain steps taken by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to check food quality and over-charging in the city.

A number of customers have complained that these hotels and cafe owners are fleecing the masses unchecked and no system to monitor the quality and prices could apparently be seen. A customer who visits various hotels informed that a number of hotels and restaurants with hygienic atmosphere have been set up in various markets and sectors in the federal capital.

"The owners of these hotels and restaurants fix rates of their food items at their own which is beyond the purchasing capacity of the common man," he added. He demanded the authorities to take action against the violators to save the consumers from diseases. An official of the Health Directorate of Capital Development Authority (CDA), when contacted said that the authorities check the prices on regular basis and also take strict action in case of any malpractice.

He further added that special teams would monitor the sale points and would fine those who sell food and beverages in unhygienic conditions.
