MIRANSHAH: Valuables worth millions of rupees were reduced to ashes when fire erupted at a godown in Mir Ali subdivision of North Waziristan, tribal sources said on Friday.

They said the fire broke out at a godown in Mir Ali, about 30 kilometres east of North Waziristan headquarters Miranshah, due to electricity short-circuiting and spread to the adjacent market within no time. They said the fire burnt valuables worth up to Rs15 million while the market was completely destroyed. The market and shop owners, Shahidullah and Abdur Rauf, said besides valuables and cash worth Rs15 million were also destroyed.

They appealed to the political administration and government to compensate them for their losses. They asked the political administration to ensure availability of the fire brigade facility in Mir Ali to cope with such situation in the future.
