KARACHI – The Karachi Water & Sewerage Board managing director has directed the Administration Department to transfer 1,000 employees from the Engineering, Finance and Administration departments to the RRG Department. The decision was taken during a meeting held to discuss and devise strategies for increasing KW&SB revenue.

Misbahuddin Farid directed the RRG DMD to ensure on time billing and recovery. Moreover, deeming the year 2013 the “Year of Revenue” he said that the additional staff was provided to the RRG department in order to ensure better recovery and increased revenue. He also directed the DMD to include income generated at hydrants in the revenue targets.

He said that due to the constant increase in population and construction of multi-storey buildings on one hand put additional burden on the existing water supply and sewerage infrastructure and on the other the KW&SB revenue was not increasing at the same rate. The increase in demand, however, made it harder for the KW&SB to operate and ensure swift provision of facilities day by day.

He directed the Revenue Department to commence a detailed survey and register all new buildings, houses and buildings with additional floors than in KW&SB record.

He also directed the Administration Department to transfer 1,000 employees from Engineering, Finance and Administration departments to the RRG Department to ensure that all revenue operations were carried out properly without any delay.

He said that these steps were being taken to protect and maintain the water supply and sewerage infrastructure in the city.
