PESHAWAR: The Wapda Hydro Union, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, on Wednesday staged protest rally against the proposed privatisation of Wapda, kidnapping of Pesco officials, price hike and unemployment.

Led by central chairman Wapda Hydro Union Gohar Taj, provincial chief Mohammad Iqbal, general secretary Mustajab Mazdooryar and Gohar Ali Gohar, the protesters gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club and chanted slogans in favour of their demands.

They said privatisation of Wapda would render thousands of employees jobless. They demanded 300 percent increase in salaries as the skyrocketing prices in petroleum products and daily commodities had turned the lives of common people miserable. They warned the government that they would hold province-wide protest and stop power supply if their demands were not met.
