WTO-sponsored seminar inaugurated

ISLAMABAD : The Secretary Commerce Munir Qureshi has inaugurated a seminar on “Trade in Services - Issues and Prospects” organised by the WTO Wing Ministry of Commerce.  The objective of holding this seminar was to provide a knowledge-sharing forum to the stakeholders in a consultative and interactive setting.  The experts highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s Services Sector and its potential to play a vital role in sustaining economic development by engaging its vast human resources. 

Services Sector has emerged as one of the main drivers of economic growth during the recent years. Pakistan’s Services sector contribution in GDP during 2012-13 was 57.7 percent with a growth performance of 3.7pc. Exports of services contributed over $5 billion to Pakistan’s trade during the same years.

The seminar was attended by Azam Khan, Executive Director, Ministry of Commerce, representatives of other government organisations, Islamabad Women Chambers, Overseas Employment Promoters Association and Private sector organizations.

Closing remarks were delivered by Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta, the Additional Secretary Commerce.
