Yamaha to start local production from 2015

Yamaha on Thursday announced an investment of $150 million to establish a motorcycles manufacturing plant in Pakistan and resolve to start two-wheelers production from 2015.

“We would like to announce official establishment of our sales and manufacturing subsidiary in Pakistan, with an investment of $150 million. We have already submitted the application for registration to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) on February 18,” a four-member delegation of Yamaha comprising Sumioka Ryouichi, senior executive officer of the company, Hidaka, Itoh and Tamura, said at a press conference. Honorary Counselor of Pakistan in Japan, Feroze Shah also accompanied them.

The delegation said that we have developed our business plan so that we could make contribution to Pakistan through our two-wheelers.”

“Our sales and manufacturing subsidiary in Pakistan will be Yamaha Motor Pakistan Private Limited (YMPK), commencing with 100 percent capital from Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd.

“We will have our factory and office of 50 acres at Bin Qasim Industrial Park where we will start production of motorcycles with the engine capacity of 100cc and above from 2015,” Ryouichi said.
