Over Rs6m looted in two bank heists

About Rs6.44 million were robbed in back-to-back bank robberies in the City on Tuesday.

The bank robberies occurred in Shara-e-Faisal and Saeedabad police remits from where the group of robbers easily managed to loot cash without any resistance from the security guards deployed at the banks. Police investigators suspected that the same group might have been behind both robberies as the same modus operandi was used in both incidents.

However, the police investigators while obtaining the CCTV footages from the banks initiated further investigation to probe the robberies. The culprits in both robberies also handed over the snatched weapons from the security guards back to them while fleeing. The security guards of both banks were taken into the police custody about their possible involvement into the case. Within Sharah-e-Faisal police remits, at least five armed men entered a branch of Bank Al Habib situated near Gulistan-e-Jauhar Chowrangi at around 4:15pm and held three security guards and bank staff hostage at gunpoint.

They later moved towards the cash counter and the strong room and looted the cash money from there. They later managed to escape from the scene within six minutes with the looted booty of worth Rs 4.6 million. At around 12:20pm, the bank robbery occurred at the main branch of the United Bank Limited situated near Rubi Chowk, Baldia Town within the limits of Saeedabad police station.

According to police officials, the robbers first thrashed police constable of the Saeedabad police station deployed for the security reasons at the bank and snatched the rifle from his possession. Police officials said that dacoits arrived at the bank on four motorcycles and managed to escape with the looted booty worth over Rs 1.8 million.
