Pakistan. Well done KalSoft! KalPoint is a very good interactive programme where
the public can ask relevant questions from person in responsible positions. It
is an excellent way to create public awareness and responsibility”.
As a
matter of fact, industries hold a key position in any progressive economy and it
is the responsibility of every government to provide value added opportunities
to the private sector for setting up new industries so that they can earn
valuable revenues and prestige for a country. Call Centre is a new Information
Technology (IT) based industry which is in its initial stages of evolution in
Pakistan. Call Centers normally attract momentous foreign investment and create
good job opportunities in the host country. It is estimated that out of
approximately US $700 billion e-commerce industry worldwide, some US $50 billion
is likely to be invested in this industry in Pakistan as it is growing with a
rate of 30% annually. In Pakistan, the investment in Call Centre industry is
looking fairly reasonable too as the man-power available in our country
possesses high potential to manage and run the industry successfully after
minimal training. The government of Pakistan has also taken positive steps in
this direction and recently Sindh Minister for IT, Mr. Syed Mustafa Kamal has
affirmed to provide 15,000 jobs through this industry and also held a Call
Centre Conference few weeks earlier in Karachi for promoting and motivating
foreign investments in this sector. The Ministry has also taken another major
initiative by holding an e-crime bill 2004 conference in Islamabad few days
earlier in which, different public and private sector professionals were brought
together under one platform to discuss and assist the government in shaping an
e-crime bill to curb the crimes done online. The recommendations given by
Chairman Ko-Ordination Group Mr. Hanif S. Kalia were appreciated by the Federal
IT Minister and other distinguished personalities present at the conference.
Undoubtedly, such efforts by the government help to renovate the trust and
confidence of the private sector towards the government as a result of which, it
attracts a lot of foreign investment. The private sector has also not lagged
behind in their contribution and has responded positively and by starting to
invest in this new industry. The Call Centers will truly help the country in
increasing foreign exchange reserves at a rapid pace and also contribute towards
building the basic infrastructure. So, let’s hope and pray for investments being
made in this field to benefit Pakistan and the present policies of government to
bear the fruits. (Ameen).
