Khanani & Kalia International marks the first successful year of attainment of ISO 27001 Certification- Information Security Management System. Its first anniversary was celebrated on 16th February 2008 in the form of First Annual Information Security (I.S.) meeting 2007 which was chaired by Mr. Owais Kalia and conducted by the Corporate Information Security Officer (CISO) Mr. Syed Nabeel Iqbal. All Head of the Departments and Task force members participated in the meeting.

It was a full day session which was divided into two sessions, first session was based on Performance Review of 2007 while the second session was allotted for discussions on ISMS. The meeting commenced with the recitation of Holy Quran by Mr. Atta followed by a welcome address by Ms. Faria Owais. The CISO then formally began the meeting proceedings by presenting the ISMS performance Review of 2007. Mr. Nabeel started off with the Targets set for 2007 and their accomplishments and carried on by highlighting all the major activities which were performed during 2007 for making the implementation of ISMS effective and strong. He threw light on ISMS implementation from the aspect of Management Review and told the forum that the implementation of ISMS at Corporate Office was the top most priority of KKI’s management which was fulfilled through trainings, audits, surprise audits, IS meetings, management review and by identifying the areas of improvement and taking corrective & preventive actions. He showed satisfaction on the overall performance of ISMS in different area s.

After CISO, all Head of the Departments individually presented the progress of their departments and the value additions with respect to ISMS during 2007. These included Mr. Fida Hussain (Head HRM), Mr. Javed Soomro (Manager Admin), Mr. Rashid Shehzad ( TF Member, HR Department), Ms. Rukhsana Mir ( TF Member, TR Department), Mr. Ayaz Messam (Sr. Mkt. Exe), Mr. Azeem Idrees (Head Fin. & Acc/Company Secretary), Mr. Atif (Asst. Manager Internal Audit) & Mr. Mustahab Alam (System Administrator). The presentations were followed by a Q/A session.

Second session started off with the discussions on the Areas of Improvement and it was made effective by all HODs through their inputs and feedbacks for further strengthening the system. A presentation on Task Force performance during 2007 was given by TF Member Ms. Shermeen. After the presentation, the new TF members joining the Task Force were introduced to the forum while Mr. Owais Kalia presented them the TF Letter of Appointment. The last session of the meeting was based on Vulnerabilities which need to be covered under the scope of ISMS which was successfully done by the forum.

After the meeting, a small certification distribution activity was arranged in which all HODs and TF members were given Certificates of Acknowledgment as a token of appreciation for their role and participation in the implementation of ISMS at their respective departments’ level during the past year.

The CISO presented a flower bouquet to the meeting Chairman and CA, Mr. Owais S. Kalia for his valuable support and guidance through out the ISMS project. Mr. Owais also presented a Certificate of Acknowledgment to Mr. Syed Nabeel Iqbal, CISO on his successful leadership and accomplishments in the ISMS project during 2007.

Mr. Owais Kalia, our CA and Chairman ISF in his valuable speech analyzed each department’s performance and stressed upon the need of ensuring continual improvement with every passing day. Mr. Owais congratulated all HODs, TF members and the CISO for completing first year of ISMS certification as a success and for playing a helpful role in making the system effective in terms of its implementation. He however remained of the view that every system in the world is subject to commitment and dedication from every individual and he believes that together, ISMS can be made more successful through joint efforts and team work in the days to come.

The First Annual IS Meeting 2007 ended up with a vote of thanks by Mr. Nabeel to the forum and TF members for their participation and contribution with respect to ISMS and the meeting.
